ESOPs are found in all main sectors. In private companies, ESOPs are mainly found in professional, scientific, and technical services; manufacturing; and construction. In public companies, manufacturing and finance/insurance are the most popular industries. The infographics below show the percentages for private companies (the vast majority of ESOPs), public companies, and all companies. The data comes from our 2025 National ESOP Database as released in February 2025.
